Wings and horns

Created by: Kelsey Nielson

You say you accept us as we are, but time after time, you tell us “are your horns necessary? Do you have to run those wings in my face ? How do you know we're discriminating against you ?” You say you accept us but when we come as we are, we are forced to cut our horns off and hide our wings. When we don’t, we are marked as nuisances, social justice warriors, snowflakes and too political. What is political about existing outside the perception of normal? Then every time we attempt to act normal on these injustices, our energy quickly becomes inert as we are questioned in whether or not we really experienced it, being told, "think about what they do in other countries, they'd KILL you for having horns! You're lucky to be in a country that is free." Our existence has been sterilized and molded into something that is more palatable by people without horns at the cost of our authentic selves being restricted because the majority couldn't handle it. The least you could do is acknowledge there's a problem. Every queen, neurodivergent, again, and biracial girl like me knows there is. My identity is in my horns and wings, and I no longer wish to restrain that to please cishet white people.
